Abstract: The Class and Group Photographs Collection contains class photographs and group pictures from the early years of the college through the mid-20th century. The preponderance of the collection spans 1890 to 1939.

The majority of photographs before 1920 are oversized and mounted. The oldest photograph is class picture the dates from 1870. Between 1890 and 1919 there are class pictures for each year. After 1920 many of the photographs were taken in an oversized, panoramic format.
Most of the photographs are formal group pictures of the February and June graduating classes. Between the years 1903 and 1917 there is often a third photograph that likely is the Model School graduating class.
Beginning in the 1930s, the graduates in the pictures wear caps and gowns. Previously, the subjects in the photographs wore clothing typical to the period. There is one file with a small number of unidentified photographs of people dressed in caps and gowns.
