Abstract: The Trenton State College Board of Trustees was created in 1968 following a mandate of the New Jersey Higher Education Act of 1966. The purpose of the Act was to give the individual state colleges and universities greater governance and fiscal autonomy while at the same time bringing planning for the state higher education structure under the purview of the newly created Department of Higher Education and Board of Higher Education. The first meeting of the Trenton State College Board of Higher Education was held on January 18, 1968.

Scope and Contents Note

The Board of Trustees Records (1968-2003) comprise public meeting minutes from 1968 to 1992 (incomplete); minutes of February, April, and June 1997, and the September 1997 agenda; minutes of December 1999; the preliminary agenda and minutes of January 2000; and the preliminary agendas for February and April 2000. The minutes typically consist of actions taken by and reports submitted to the Board. Many of the minutes have appendices. Attendance lists also are included. Generally, Board meetings were held once every 4 to 6 weeks, though often not meeting between July and September.

One file also contains the Trusteegram, a publication produced by the Board of Trustees in the mid-1970s. Trusteegram was a publication produced by the Board of Trustees beginning in 1974. The Trusteegram appears to be memos between the Chair of the Board and the other Board members regarding upcoming meetings, agendas, and items for consideration.

Trustee Line, published by the Office of College Relations, can be found in the College Publications Records. The Board of Trustees records also contain a brief biography of each member for 1987.
