Music Cataloging Materials Workflow

Materials Workflow

Scores

  • Scores ready for cataloging have two places of origin: Acquisitions and Media.
Acquisitions scores will be brought to the music cataloger’s cubicle.
Media scores will be placed on the “scores backlog” shelf in media—it is the responsibility of the music cataloger to check this area regularly.
  • Cataloged scores have one of two destinations:
Scores in pamphlet binders (35 pages or less with a single signature) are placed on the labeling cart near the student computer.
Scores that go to the bindery (36 pages or greater, or multiple signatures, or standing orders) are placed on the bindery cart in Acquisitions. See bindery procedures for instructions on how to scan items to bindery.
If any score needs to be reviewed prior to labeling, place on the NLC review cart.

Compact discs

  • CDs ready for cataloging are always placed in the gemtrac compact shelving area labeled “CDs backlog.” It is the responsibility of the music cataloger to check this area regularly. Occasionally Media will deliver rush compact discs to the music cataloger.
  • Cataloged compact discs are placed on the labeling cart near the student computer.
If any CD needs to be reviewed prior to labeling, place on the NLC review cart.

Rush items

Any item containing the following needs to be processed as a rush item

  • Items marked "rush"
  • Item containing a "requested by" note
