New Books Cataloging Procedures
Criteria
1. New books cataloged for the General, Children's, and Young Adult Collections with publication dates of the latest three years will be processed for the New Books location.
2. Standing order titles (primarily processed by Larissa) that met the criteria mentioned above will NOT be treated as New Books and included in the service.
3. Multi-volume sets will NOT be included.
4. Single volumes of a multi-volume set received individually will NOT be included.
5. Books cataloged with “Notify” request, but not “Hold” will be included.
6. Books cataloged with “Hold” requests will NOT be included.
7. Other materials such as videos, CDs, musical scores will not be included.
8. Any replacement titles regardless of same edition or different edition will NOT be included.
9. If multiple copies are received and cataloged concurrently, only one copy (c.1) will be shelved in the New Books location. Added copies that are received and processed later will not be included.
10. Any non-book accompanying materials (e.g. sound CDs, CD-ROMs, videos, etc.) will not be shelved in New Books shelves.
Cataloging/end processing procedures
1. A yellow dot will be placed on the spine of each new book (close to the top of the spine) for identification purposes. Be mindful that the yellow dot should not cover essential book information (e.g. author or title). Dust jackets will be kept for books that belong to the New Books category. In that case, the yellow dot will be placed on the jacket instead.
2. Two call number labels will be produced and affixed to each book with dust jacket, one on the jacket, one on the book. The call number label for the dust jacket needs no protection tape.
