Physical Processing of Children’s Books (including Seals)
1 . Call number labels are to be applied to all cataloged children's books. Book jackets are retained for children's books. If the book has a jacket, the book will receive a label on the jacket and a duplicate label on the book itself.
a. Place the label on the lower left hand corner of the cover, unless the spine is large enough to accommodate the label. Books with jackets will be covered with a clear plastic cover, so the label will not need a label cover.
b. If the book does not have a jacket, place a clear label cover over the label.
2. Some awards books will require award seals. The complete list of seals can be found at the bottom of this page. Place the seal on the directly on the front cover of the book, or the original book jacket if present. The award seal should be beneath the clear protective jacket cover used by the library. When applying the seal, do not cover pertinent information on the book cover.
3. Books with jackets will need a clear protective jacket cover. Select a jacket cover of appropriate size and cover the jacket of the book as
instructed. Make sure the book jacket flaps are taped directly to the front of the book as shown. For odd sized jackets, use the book jacket roll which
can be cut to custom lengths. Do not place award seals on protective jacket covers.
