The advanced subject search below—performed in Library Search—reveals English-language criticisms of primary works written by global women writers. The search expression includes three requirements: 1) That results be about women authors or the representation of women in literature; 2) That results reveal secondary literary criticisms rather than primary sources; and 3) That results not primarily treat American authors.
Note that the Boolean AND and NOT operators require or exclude subject terms, respectively, while the OR operator groups closely related subject terms in parenthetical expressions. Subject terms are assigned to bibliographic records (i.e., book descriptions) by cataloging librarians from a pre-approved list of Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH). See the "Basics of Online Searching" article, assigned by Professor Neuman, for more information.
