Author Biographies: Selected Reference Works
It can sometimes be difficult to locate biographical information about a children's author.
- The Gitenstein Library reference works listed here might help if your author published prior to 2007. Some of the books revealed by this search can be particularly useful for first identifying and then finding information about authors of color.
- Another good place to look is the library's Literature Resource Center database. Click on "Person Search" and then enter "Children's writer" in the Occupation field.

Locate Americans by "occupations and realms of renown" such as Animal Rights Activists, Black Nationalists, Civil Rights Leaders, Gay Rights Activists, Social Reformers, Suffragists, and many other occupations. Brief but highly useful bibliographic essays accompany each entry. These point researchers to the most important secondary biographies but also to repositories of collected papers and other primary source ephemera.
Oxford Dictionary of National Biography by
