Primary Search

Primary Search® contains full text for more than 80 popular elementary school magazines.  All full-text articles are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles). Additionally, Primary Search includes the Encyclopedia of Animals™, and features Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia, providing students with easy-to-read encyclopedic entries written specifically for kids. The database also provides access to thousands of relevant photos, maps, and flags. This resource offers unique access to children’s magazines for pre-service teachers.

Middle Search Plus

Middle Search® Plus contains full text for more than 150 popular middle school magazines. All full-text articles are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles). Full text is also available for thousands of biographies and historical essays. Additionally, this database contains primary source documents including Essential Documents in American History, reference books including the Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia; New Oxford American Dictionary, 2nd Edition; Encyclopedia of Animals™; and thousands of relevant photos, maps and flags. This resource offers unique access to middle school magazines and materials for pre-service teachers.

MAS Ultra - School Edition

This comprehensive database contains full text for nearly 500 popular high school magazines in all curriculum areas, including America’s Civil War, American Heritage, American History, Archaeology, Astronomy, Bioscience, Careers & Colleges, Civil War Times, Congressional Digest, Discover, History Today, Nation, National Review, New Republic, New Scientist, Popular Science, Science News, Scientific American, Smithsonian, World War II, etc. All full-text articles are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles). Full text is also available for 85,670 biographies and over 107,000 primary source documents. This resource also contains more than 360 reference books (including the Columbia Encyclopedia and the CIA World Fact Book); an Image Collection of over 592,000 photos, maps & flags, color PDFs; and expanded full-text backfiles (back to 1975) for key magazines. This resource offers unique access to high school magazines and other materials useful to pre-service secondary teachers.

ERIC Education Resource Information Center (U.S. Dept. of Education)

ERIC provides  access to more than 1.3 million bibliographic records of journal articles and other education-related materials.  ERIC DOCUMENTS are available in full-text.  

Children's Literature Comprehensive Database (CLCD)

Provides reviews of children’s and young adult literature (Pre-K through 12), as well as books for education professionals. Identifies awards, honors, prizes, best book lists, and state reading lists associated with a title. Lists measurement parameters of reading measurement programs such as Accelerated Reader, Degrees of Reading Power, and Reading Counts.

Searching Within a Journal

Use Journals by Title from the TCNJ Library webpage to search the journal title:

Enter "common core" in the Search for articles within this journal box to search for articles within this journal, Science and Children for articles that contain the words "common core." This is a good way to look for lesson plans!

Searching Within a Database

We can also use the database to search within a specific journal for a named subject. "Common core" is a defined subject in the Education Full Text database so we can search it as a SU Subject as shown below.
