TCNJ Scholars (Digital Repository): Supported File Formats

Supported File Formats

DSpace, the open-source platform used for TCNJ Scholars, allows for full-text indexing and searching of only the following document types: PDF (if text-based or OCR-ed), Microsoft Word, plain text, and HTML. Using these common file formats makes your works more findable and more easily accessible through TCNJ Scholars. To facilitate long-term access and preservation of your digital content, all text documents and PowerPoint slides will be converted to PDF/A format, an international preservation format, during the upload process whenever possible. Some features, such as macros or animations, may not be migrated while producing PDF/A-conforming files.

Although they are not searchable, common non-text file formats, such as JPEG image files and WAV audio files, are auto-recognized within the DSpace environment. In addition, digital files of any format (and file size), including but not limited to datasets, can be added to and archived in TCNJ Scholars for basic archiving services including secure storage and backup and public access; however the complexities of the digital landscape may keep these files, while technically viable, from being renderable by a computer program or understandable by human users long into the future. If you have digital content to deposit that could fall into such categories, you are welcome to send questions to repository@tcnj.edu prior to making your deposits..
